Kebanyakan dari idol-idol ini berasal dari China, tetapi ada juga yang dari Hong Kong seperti Got7 Jackson. Banyak idol China telah menyatakan dukungan mereka dengan postingan melalui SNS bahkan ketika masalah dengan Tiongkok seperti sengketa wilayah yang terjadi di masa lalu. Namun, kontroversi mengenai apakah benar untuk mendukung kerusakan yang baru-baru ini yang disebabkan oleh penindasan pasukan polisi Hong Kong masih terus diperdebatkan.

Saat ini, Hong Kong sedang memprotes secara besar-besaran Rancangan Undang-Undang (RUU) Ekstradisi yang diajukan Hong Kong kepada China. Warga Hong Kong sangat menentang penggunaan RUU yang mengusulkan perubahan perjanjian ekstradisi berupa diperbolehkannya penjahat yang tertangkap di Hong Kong untuk diekstradisi ke China.

Protes terhadap RUU Ekstradisi, yang dimulai pada bulan Maret, telah berkembang menjadi protes yang melibatkan lebih dari 1 juta warga Hong Kong. Isu semakin memanas terlebih setelah tertembaknya mata salah seorang wanita yang berpartisipasi dalam protes anti-ekstradisi pada tanggal 11 Agustus kemarin.
